Girls win divisionals, boys take second

The Whitefish girls track and field team won their third straight Northwestern A divisionals title by racking up 189 points this week. Columbia Falls finished fourth with 75 points.

The boys came in second place with 109 points, just eight points shy of Polson's winning score of 117 points.

The girls earned first place in eight events. The boys placed first in four events.

Courtney Ferda took first in the 100 meter dash in 12.61 seconds, the 200 in 26.09, the 400 in 59.34 and the 300 hurdles in 45.74.

Ashley Ferda placed first in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.39. She also took first in the javelin with a distance of 112-2.

Hailey Farmin took two firsts in the jumps. She won the long jump with a distance of 16-3 and took first in the triple jump with a distance of 33-11 3/4.

The girls also took a first in the 400 relay race and second in the 1,600 relay team in 4:12.62.

The Whitefish girls also did well in the long distance races. Four runners placed in the 1,600-meter long distance race — Beth Donovan, second in 5:28.09, Anne Danczyk, third in 5:36.65, Clare Miller, fifth in 5:38.12, and Janna Rozar, sixth in 5:39.50.

Four Lady Bulldogs placed in the 3,200 — Loni Hanson, second in 12:20.64, Rozar, third in 12:30.03, Miller, fourth in 12:41.83, and Kelly Bieser, sixth in 13.11.81.

Other finishers for the Lady Bulldogs included Marni Hale, fifth in the 100 meter dash in 13.58 and fourth in the long jump with a distance of 15-3 3/4.

Heather Melcer placed fourth in the 200 in 27.57, fifth in the 400 in 1:02.4 and fifth in triple jump with a distance of 32-5 3/4.

Laura Kuennen placed fifth in the 200 in 27.77 and second in the 300 hurdles in 47.43.

Danczyk placed third in the 800 in 2:27.84, and Natalie Kearns took fifth in the 800 in 2:30.8.

In the 100 hurdles, Jade Hansen came in fourth in 16.54 and Megan Apple placed sixth in 17.49.

Carmel Johnston placed second in pole vault with a height of 9-0. She also took sixth in javelin with a distance of 98-7 and sixth in discus in 92-2.

BreAna Cameron placed third in the triple jump in 33-7 3/4 and fifth in long jump with a distance of 15-3 1/2.

For the boys, Drew Coco took first places in two long-distance races — the 1,600 in 4:30.66 and the 3,200 in 10:01.1. He also placed third in the 800 in 2:00.51.

Aaron Tkachyk placed first in the long jump with a distance of 20-4 1/2. He also took sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 39-9.

Cort Rogers continued his dominance in the pole vault, winning at 14-0. He also placed second in the 110 hurdles in 15.19.

Colt Idol placed second in the high jump with a height of 6-2.

Danny Neff placed second in the 300 hurdles in 41.02, fifth in the 100 in 16.22 and sixth in the 200 in 23.83.

Ian Mallams placed fourth in the 800 in 2:02.53, third in the 1,600 in 4:41.13 and third in the 3,200 in 10:12.40.

Erik Anderson placed fifth in the 3,200 in 10:31.75, and Seth Wiley placed sixth in the 300 hurdles in 43.99, and Anto Daoud placed sixth in the 400 in 52.8.

Kaleb Prestegaard placed fifth in pole vault with a height of 12-0, and Kevin McDowell placed sixth in shot put with a distance of 45-11 1/2.

The boys took third place in the 400 relay and third in the 1,600 relay.
