Tennis teams defeat Columbia Falls

The Bulldog tennis teams remain undefeated after the boys defeated Columbia Falls, 7-0, and the girls triumphed, 6-1, on Friday in conference matches.
But the Class A Whitefish players had a tougher go of it during the non-conference Missoula Invitational, where the Bulldogs took on a field of AA competitors. There, Whitefish had some losses, but also had some first-, second- and third-place finishes.
"Missoula was a good invitational for us because we met stiff competition and we were challenged on some matches," said boys team coach Kathy Cummings.
"It was a good learning day … I think we played really strong," she said. "We just realized some of our weaknesses and realized what we have to work on: doubles strategy and serving."
At Missoula, Ryan Rottenbiller won the No. 2 singles match, and Ian Hosek won the No. 3 singles match.
For the girls, Sierra McCartney won the No. 3 singles match, Mariah Driscoll took second in the No. 2 singles match, and Michelle Maddock and Kelsey McCluskey took second in No. 3 doubles.
Next up, the tennis teams play at Ronan today and at Polson on Friday. There will be a girls-only match against Eureka at home on Tuesday.
