Kenneth Moen

Kenneth Edwin Moen, 90, of Grants Pass, Ore., and resident of the Oregon Veterans Home in The Dalles, Ore., died Feb. 24, 2007, following a brief illness.

Kenneth was born in Deerwood, Minn., in 1916 and moved with his parents Christian and Kari (Oien) Moen to Eureka when he was 15.

As a young man, Kenneth worked for several local businesses and on Civilian Conservation Corps projects in Glacier National Park.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from September 1941 until November 1945 and was assigned to the 69th Engineering Topographic Company Survey Platoon serving in the southwest Pacific, including the New Guinea campaign.

Kenneth returned to Eureka and the Flathead Valley in 1945, where he lived and worked and his children were born. In 1954, the family moved to southern Oregon, where Kenneth worked in the local lumber industry until his retirement in 1979.

He married Jean Hannah Pluid, a third-generation resident of Eureka, on May 13, 1942, in Olympia, Wash. She passed away in May 2005.

Kenneth was an active volunteer in his church in Rogue River and enjoyed playing cards, sports and, until his early 80's, annual trips to northern Montana.

Survivors include his daughter Karen Moen, of San Mateo, Calif.; son Stephen Moen, of Kirkland, Wash.; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives residing in northwestern Montana.

A memorial service will be held March 9, 2007, at the Faith Lutheran Church in Rogue River, Ore., with Pastor Norman Niblett officiating. A committal service will be held that afternoon at the Eagle Point National Cemetery in southern Oregon.
