Rock salt, not bear spray

| December 27, 2007 11:00 PM

Thank you, Eric Payne, for explaining what really happened with yourself and Vic Workman.

I wonder if the bear huggers can understand that grizzly bears have no fear of man anymore. If you could ask some of the old Glacier Park rangers, what they used to do for problem bears was rock salt in a shotgun, in the rear end.

They said bears stayed away from man's scent completely, as they developed a fear of man.

I am a hunter, and I know if I have time in a grizzly charge, I would protect myself (which has more value than a bear does).

We have too many bears in our system and there will be more encounters.

The rock salt did no bodily harm, just stung them.

We need to bring this policy back instead of rubber bullets.
