Drama, speech teams place in Whitefish

| December 6, 2007 11:00 PM

The Bigfork High School speech, debate and drama teams didn't have their best showing of the year at the Whitefish Speech Invitational Dec. 1.

Bigfork placed fifth in drama and ninth out of 19 teams in speech.

Individually the team had several near misses as Brianna Sefcak, Brandon Western, Rebecca Denning, Gwen Fratt, Krisie Henderson and Kayla Carlson all missed finals by a tie-breaker or one point.

Those that did make finals did well. Abby Rundle took third in extemporaneous, a category that she competed in for the first time at the Whitefish meet.

Bigfork's duos were also successful. Jerry Gaiser and Jacob Sefcak took sixth in humorous duo and Cecily Whistler and Jordan Sabo took fourth in serious duo.

The team is looking forward to next weekend, according to coach Charlie Appleby. He said Bigfork will have a larger and more seasoned team in Libby on Dec. 8. That meet is scheduled to start at 8 a.m.
