Markus & Alpine not sold to Foley

| August 23, 2007 11:00 PM

I can't count the numerous letters, innuendoes, personal contacts and third-party information I have received in the past three or four months concerning the sale of Markus Foods and the Alpine Market.

I've had individuals actually threaten my employees with harm and language to the effect that they will never, ever, frequent the stores if Bill Foley in fact now owned them. It's been amazing to see what has happened in Whitefish in the past 10 years and especially in the past couple years.

I want everyone in Whitefish to know that I have not sold our stores to Mr. Foley and I have no intention of doing so, ever. My dad and I built these businesses to what they are today, and not only do we appreciate all of our customers, but we appreciate being in Whitefish and employing the great people we have working for us.

Mr. Foley did contact us and he did make us an offer of sale. His offer, however, was far below the value we have placed on our businesses, and if we plan to sell, it certainly would not be to someone who already owns half of Whitefish and all of Big Mountain.

Thank you all for your patronage and thank you all for your concern. We are here to stay and are here for you.
