Aurora, Colo., resident Lisa Mills was a long way from home when she won the women's division of the 10-kilometer race on Saturday in the Heritage Days Boogie to the Bank. But Mills, a former Boogie to the Bank champion, is no stranger to the Flathead Valley.

Mills' winning time of 40:43.7 was three minutes off what she posted when she set the women's 40-49-year-old division record. Her father and mother live at the north end of Swan Lake near Bigfork and her father is a former ranger at Logging Creek.

"I've raced here every summer," Mills said, explaining that a hamstring injury currently prevents her from doing speed work.

Eighteen-year-old Seth Grossman cruised to the men's win in the 10K with a time of 33:38.7, a personal best. The 2007 graduate of Flathead High School was a AA mile and two-mile champion last spring.

Grossman will attend the University of Wyoming this fall on track and cross country scholarships.

Jesse Rumsey of Columbia Falls was the Boogie to the Bank women's 5K champion, turning in a time of 19:44.7. Rumsey, who has a coaching business, races all year 'round, she said.

Carl Nystuen of Lakeside, another 2007 Flathead High School graduate, was the men's 5K champ on Saturday. His time was 15:54.5 — a 5:08 average mile for Nystuen.

"I was going for a sub-16," Nystuen said after the race. "I was happy with it."

Nystuen is bound for Montana State University in Bozeman. He will run cross country and indoor and outdoor track for the Bobcats.
