Girls win in Libby

The Bulldog track teams did well at two meets over the week, with the girls winning in Libby and the boys placing second. They also posted record times and distances.

At the non-scoring Bigfork Relays on April 17 against Bigfork, Browning and Columbia Falls, the Bulldogs did well in events that combine individual times and distances as relays.

Whitefish took first in the co-ed 800 meter in 1:45.6; the girls two-mile in 11:37; the boys two-mile in 9:02.1; the boys sprint medley in 1:44.9; the girls distance medley in 4:56.5; the girls 1,600 meter in 4:27.6; the boys 1,600 meter in 3:46.7; the boys pole vault in 34 feet 6 inches; the boys high jump in 17 feet 2 inches; the girls 400 meter in 52.67; the boys 400 meter in 46.33; the girls 200 meter in 26.7; the boys 200 meter in 23.4; and the co-ed shuttle hurdle in 32.8.

Cort Rogers led the Bulldog pole vault team by leaping 14 feet, which was at the time the best in the state for this season. He beat that record on April 21 at the Libby Invitational when he soared over 14 feet 3 inches to take first place.

Rogers also took first in the 110 meter hurdles in 16.28. Rogers also took first in the 110 hurdles at 16.28, third in the high jump at 5-10 and fourth in the 300 hurdles in 44.11.

The boys came in second in Libby, trailing Polson, 125-102.5. Eleven teams competed.

In the sprints, Danny Neff took third in the 200 in 24.58 and fourth in the 100 in 12.34. Tyler Mason took second in the 200 in 24.21. Aaron Tkachyk took second in the long jump at 18-11.5.

In the middle distance, Ian Mallams took third in the 400 in 54.55, third in the 800 in 2:03.03 and third in the 1,600 in 4:35.66. Drew Coco took fourth in the 800 in 2:06.44 and fourth in the 1,600 in 4:39.66. The 1,600 relay team took third in 3:46.00.

The girls grabbed first place at Libby with 157 points to Polson's 122.5.

Courtney Ferda, who has the fastest time in the state in the 200 in 26.13 and the fifth fastest time in the state in the 400 in 60.79, took first at Libby in the 100 in 13.52 and first in the 300 hurdles in 47.21.

Her cousin Ashley Ferda took first in the 100 hurdles in 16.72, followed by Jade Hansen in third in 18.20. Laura Kuennen took fourth in the 300 hurdles in 50.25 and fourth in the 200 in 28.77.

The Whitefish 400 relay team took first place in 51.89 and second in the 1,600 relay in 4:16.46.

In the distance races, Anne Danczyk took second in the 800 in 2:31.01. Beth Donovan took first in the 1,600 in 5:43.75, followed by Danczyk in second in 5:49.63 and Clare Miller in fourth in 5:54.99. Janna Rozar took first in the 3,200 in 12:46.67, followed by Loni Hanson in third in 13:06.59.

Carmel Johnston took first in the pole vault at 8-6. In other field events, Ashley Ferda took second in the javelin at 109-7 and Johnston took sixth in the discus at 89-0.

Hailey Farmin took second in the long jump at 14-10.5, followed by Marni Hale at 14-3.75. In the triple jump, BreAnna Cameron took third at 36-6.25, Farmin took fourth at 30-11.5 and Natalie Kearns took fifth at 30-9.5. Heather Melcer took fourth in the high jump at 4-5.1.
