Hungry Horse News

Keith Catt opened the Columbia Falls track season by breaking the school record in shot put and then topped it off with a win in the discus.

Catt threw the shot 54-2, breaking the old mark by more than a couple of feet. The old school record was 51-10.

Catt also took first in the discus with a throw of 141-1/2.

From a team perspective, both the girls and boys teams took second behind Polson in a meet that was marked with the occasional shower and a cool breeze.

Heck, just getting a meet completed at the end of March in Columbia Falls is an accomplishment. On more than one occasion the meet has been cut short or canceled altogether because of the weather.

Catt wasn't the only one who had a good day. Kyle Jangula took first in the long jump at 19-6, and first in the triple at 41-2 3.4.

On the girls side, Jessica Boyer won both the 800 and the 1,600, with times of 2:31.67 and 5:55.31 respectively.

Ketti Wilhelm won the pole vault at 8-6.

Next action is April 10 at the Flathead time trials. Next full meet is in Missoula April 14.
