Both the boys and girls Columbia Falls' track teams took 18th place at the state meet last week in Butte.

The girls were led by Amber Lampman in the triple jump (34-91/2). Jylisa Fields had a great long jump, taking sixth (15-9.25).

On the boys' side, Kevin Boyer, Keith Catt and Jack Scherman all took fifth place in their respective events.

Katt was fifth in the discus (144-11), Boyer was fifth in the triple jump (43-0) and Scherman was fifth in the long jump (20-101/2).

State wraps up the prep season for sports.

Josh Wilson qualified for the 100-meter dash final but didn't place and Emily Stoltz qualified for the 100-meter hurdles but didn't place.

"We had many athletes do better than they had ever done before, and that is

what you ask them to do each time they compete. Kevin Boyer and Jack

Scherman both placed 5th in their events by setting personal records in poor

weather. Both relay teams ran faster than they had before, Nick Beckwith

threw 4 feet farther than he ever had before, and Greg Macijunes through

farther than anyone has ever thrown who had a cast on one leg. Keith Catt

was 5th in the Disc in poor weather and will be back next year to contend

for the championship," said boys coach Mark Beckwith. "The athletes worked hard all season and now it is time for them to ask "What am I going to do next."
