James Clegg

| May 24, 2006 11:00 PM

James R. "Jim" Clegg, 70, passed on to the Lord on May 9, 2006, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell.

He was the oldest of three boys born to Delbert and Alice Clegg, of Portland. Jim was born in Medford, Ore., and he fished the ocean in California in his younger days.

He moved to Whitefish in 1972, opened the Snowbird Laundromat and Clegg Insurance Agency, and he retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural route carrier.

Loving Montana, Jim always said, "We live where people come to vacation; it's the best." He graduated from Portland State College in Oregon with a bachelor's in history, playing football there as well. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

Jim loved the outdoors, ocean and fly-fishing, hunting and his hunting dog, Hobbes. He loved flowers and gardening and people. He would help anyone when he could.

Jim will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his brother, David Clegg.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, of Bigfork; his son Bob and wife Laurie and their son Alex, his son Jeffrey and daughter Carrie Achilles, his brother Terry Clegg, and his niece Alana and her husband Ewan Campbell, all from Washington.

Cremation has taken place. Services were held May 27 at Pope John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork.
