Hungry Horse water rates set to double

| May 24, 2006 11:00 PM

Water rates in the Hungry Horse Water and Sewer District are set to increase an average of $10.89 per month for residential users. That's almost double of what they are now.

The Board of Directors for the District will be taking comments on the change June 5 at 7 p.m. at Canyon Elementary School.

District Manager Bill Kavanagh said the increase will help pay for debt the district has taken on to improve the water system including expanding lines and building a new water tower. The increase will raise the monthly base rate per equivalent residential user from $13.65 to $24.54.

Kavanagh said it's not known exactly when the rate increase will take affect. This will depend on when the district has to start paying back loans for the project.
