The Columbia Falls girls softball team had a rough outing against Polson last week, losing 7-0, but came back to notch three wins, beating Anaconda 14-3, Stevensville 21-4 and Mission 12-8 Monday in extra innings.

The Kats had a tough time against top-ranked Polson last Thursday on both the offensive and defensive fronts.

Polson is the sort of team that doesn't allow many mistakes and while pitcher Jennie Johnson did well on the mound, the defense behind her was often suspect.

Many of the runs Polson scored were unearned.

The Kats stormed back at the Frenchtown tourney. Anaconda went out to a 3-0 lead in the second, but the Kats matched that with three in the bottom of the stanza and then dumped on nine more runs to end the game in five under the mercy rule.

The Kats also pounded Stevi in the tourney.

Jennie Johnson got the win against Anaconda, holding the Copperheads to just four hits.

Amanda Milliard was 2-for -2 against Anaconda and Kayla Stinger was 2-for-3.

On Monday, the young Kats squad scored five runs in the ninth inning to beat Mission 12-8 in what was an ugly game.

The teams had a combined 12 errors, but the Kats were able to muster enough offense to win behind the bat of Milliard who went 4-for-6 with a double and a triple.

Jennie Johnson picked up the win. The Kats tied up the game in the top of the sixth and then the teams went two more scoreless innings before Columbia Falls poured on five runs in the top of the ninth. St. Ignatius could only muster one run in the bottom of the ninth and the game was over. The Kats have another busy week on their hands. They play Polson today (Thursday) and then travel to Butte for a tournament and then face rival Whitefish next Tuesday away.

The last time they played the Dogs they beat them 10-0. The Whitefish game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
