Golden Agers help needed

| June 21, 2006 11:00 PM

The Whitefish Golden Agers, your senior center, needs help. As our membership continues to become grayer, we need the volunteers of any age to continue to provide needed services to the senior community.

We provide daily congregate meals to those who can make it to the center and deliver meals on wheels to those who cannot leave their homes. For many, the smiling-meals delivery person is the only human contact that they receive all day.

We need help in the kitchen and delivery people. The time commitment is not a big one. The kitchen crew work from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., and the drivers work for about an hour or so daily, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

But in this short period of time, meals are received from the central kitchen at the Agency on Aging in Kalispell, warmed and apportioned to 25 to 35 Whitefish seniors. No senior is ever denied meals regardless of ability to pay.

With summer here, we have recently lost some of our volunteers and need additional help. Would you take a moment and see if you can make a commitment for a few hours one day a week to help those who helped build our community into the delightful place it is?

Call the center at 862-4923 or come down to the center, at 121 East Second, next to Kay Beller Park, and spend a few hours learning about what we do. I can assure you, it will be time well spent, and if you help, you will find that you have made a significant contribution to your community as well.
