Good year for PTA

On behalf of the Whitefish PTA board of directors, we want to thank all our volunteers for their countless hours of dedication to the PTA this year.

It is the continued support of parent volunteers, community members and school administrators, teachers and staff that enables us to provide our schools with a variety of educational forums. We appreciate your time devoted and contributions given to implement programs and activities that have benefited Whitefish children attending all three district schools.

We want to share with the community some of our accomplishments this year. We awarded two financial-aid scholarships of $750 each to two graduating seniors who will be attending a Montana college; donated money for the senior gifts for '06 Grad Night; co-hosted a disco activities night at Central School that was a fund-raiser for the auditorium renovation, giving middle-grade students an opportunity to support the project; bought new music software for Jenanne Solberg's orchestra class; supported the Arts in April class sessions at Muldown, where students explore creative and "unique" studies for the month; coordinated the Reflections Contest at all three schools, giving student winners a financial reward plus an opportunity to compete statewide for monetary awards; coordinated financial support for the after-school programs at the Whitefish Theatre Company and Stumptown Arts Studio; and organized book swaps at Central and Muldown schools, allowing students an opportunity to exchange old books for "new" ones.

We ended this year with our Paving The Way Fund-raiser at Central School. This opportunity has allowed everyone in Whitefish to purchase a stone paver, with a personalized inscription, to be permanently placed in the new library courtyard. In recognition of all the volunteers' generous efforts, PTA will be donating a paver to honor all our supporters.

We understand that with school coming to a close and the amount of year-end demands that some of you may have overlooked this opportunity to honor your family members or someone you regard highly. Therefore, we have extended our pavers campaign for one more week, until June 16. Remember, this will be your last chance to become a part of Whitefish history at Central School.

These programs and others were the result of the tireless energy dedicated by all our volunteers. Again, we thank you for helping us to achieve our primary goal of "Children First." We look forward to next year and working in partnership with our schools to support their objective to offer a rewarding educational foundation in a safe and positive environment.
