Whitefish hosts road cycling championship

| July 19, 2006 11:00 PM

The Flathead Cycling Team will host the 2006 Montana State Road Cycling Championships on July 22 beginning at 10:30 a.m.

More than 100 racers from across the Pacific Northwest will vie for the title of Montana State Champion on a course that begins at Round Meadow State Park, winds around Farm to Market Road, climbs 17 miles to Star Meadow and finishes near the Logan Creek bridge on Star Meadow Road.

Cyclists will compete for the coveted state title, riding distances ranging from 35 to 70 miles. Flathead Cycling will compete against teams from across the state as they defend the overall team championship.

For the second consecutive year, the Tim Murphy State Farm Insurance Montana Team Championship Trophy will be awarded to the team with the most overall points.

Flathead Cycling will donate the proceeds of the race to Fish Trails, a Whitefish non-profit organization committed to raising funds, awareness and enthusiasm for the Whitefish Pedestrian and Bike Path system.

A barbecue and awards presentation will be held immediately following the event at Glacier Cyclery in Whitefish.

More information about the championship can be picked up at Glacier Cyclery, Pin and Cue and Tim Murphy State Farm Agency, or by visiting www.flatheadcycling.org.
