Montana boys win regional golf tourney

The Montana boys defeated the Alberta boys for only the second time in the 14-year history of the Montana/Alberta Cup last week at Whitefish Lake Golf Course.

The Montana girls lost to the Alberta team despite making a comeback on day two of the tournament.

The Montana boys finished the tournament with 20 1/2 points over Alberta's 14 1/2 to take the win,

In the morning round Aug. 7, Alberta led the Montana boys 12-6 after 18 holes of best ball and chapman play.

In the individual rounds Aug. 8, Whitefish's Sam Krause notched three points in his win over Alberta's Mike Wilkes, while Montana's Jordan Michale, Geoff Oliphant, Austin Edwards and Larry Iverson all recorded wins.

On the girls side, Alberta crushed the Montana team 15-3 in team play on the first day, and slipped by the Montana team 11-7 on day two to win 26-10.

Helena's Lindsay Erickson and Livingston's Hanna Barney combined for 4 1/2 points, while Whitefish's Chelsea Ray tied Alberta's Anisha Chong at 1 1/2 points.

The Montana/Alberta Cup pairs the best golfers from the regions against each other in the annual tournament, which is hosted at either Lethbridge or Whitefish Lake Golf Course every year.
