Community vision

| April 26, 2006 11:00 PM

It is obvious to everyone that Bigfork has been growing rapidly recently, and surprising to no one that it is doing so. Bigfork is a unique town with beautiful surrounding open spaces, agricultural lands, and scenic views. It is not surprising that so many want to come live here. And with all of its available land, and few development restrictions, it is a waiting opportunity.

But, it is not only about the opportunity. It is about the future of our community, and the home we want for our families and their children. Bigfork is a special community and a special place to live. It is a small town that is friendly and supportive. It is a town about our friends and our neighbors, and a way of life.

I want to help maintain the qualities of Bigfork that make it the community we chose to live in. Bigfork doesn't look like "anywhere else USA," and I don't want it to. I don't want sprawling development that all looks homogenous and alike. I want some balance of development with open spaces. I want to see landscaping and greenbelts incorporated along the highway strip development that is occurring. I want to see moderate signage and tasteful architecture. I want to see a zoning plan that makes sense, adhered to.

Bigfork is growing. It is how we continue to grow that is the issue. It is about being mindful and thoughtful with this process. And it is about participating and taking pride in being a part the town we love.
