Gratuitous swipe not appreciated

| April 19, 2006 11:00 PM

Fifty years ago, my late grandmother warned me, "Never trust a man who puffs himself up by foolishly attacking others."

She must have been thinking of Central Station's Mr. Flanagan and his gratuitous swipe at the quality of the O'Shaughnessy Center entertainment.

Most adults recognize that different artists are best suited to different venues and audiences, and that quality is very much in the eye and ear of the beholder. Mr. Flanagan would be smart to leave the prodigious O'Shaughnessy out of his battle with the city council and to focus his energy elsewhere.

Besides, in which lifetime did he expect one of his performers to earn a private audience with the Pope — as did the O'Shaughnessy's Harlem Gospel Choir.
