Care and compassion was appreciated

Cec Caferro and his family want to thank our family and friends for their love, support, and prayers during Patty's illness and following her passing.

We all appreciate the cards, flowers, food, donations, visits, prayers, and out pouring of love, which has helped us in our time of loss. We also want to thank the nurses, aides, physicians, and other staff at North Valley Hospital, Nome Health Care, Hospice, and Kalispell Medical Equipment. Your commitment and care made Patty's last days more comfortable. Your tender care and compassion was felt by Patty and greatly appreciated by all of us.

Is Super 1 going to be a good neighbor?

The Dirty Hands Garden Club, established in 1988, is a nonprofit organization with any proceeds going back into the community. Each spring the club buys and plants the flowers surrounding the North Valley Hospital and the Whitefish Train Depot. Throughout the summer Club members volunteer their time to water, weed and fertilize these plantings.

The vision of the Club was to start a Farmers' Market to be a source of income to purchase the flowers and gardening supplies. The Whitefish Farmer's Market was established and over the years the market has continued to grow. It runs from May through September. The Club has established and enforces rules and regulations the vendors must follow. One such rule is that items allowed for sale must be grown, gathered or produced in western Montana. Club members direct the parking and set up of the vendors each week and collect a percentage of their sales each market day. The Club also pays the Whitefish Resort Tax on the vendor's sales.

The Farmer's Market has been held in the Mountain Mall parking lot for the past 10 years on Thursdays from 4-6:30 p.m.

The Mall has the space to allow ample parking for both vendors and customers. It is highly visible from the main highway, inviting locals and visitors with easy access. The market provides the main source of flowers in the spring for local gardeners. Throughout the summer it offers much more than local produce. We see a variety of booths with arts and crafts items from lawn furniture to hand crafted soaps to unique jewelry to name a few.

This year we learned that Super 1 has purchased a portion of the Mountain Mall parking lot and has denied access to the Farmer's Market.

We are all looking forward to the new store but at what price?
