Roy Grant Malcolm

After a short and courageous fight with cancer, Roy Grant Malcolm passed away Feb. 20, 2005.

Roy Malcolm was born on July 21, 1928, in Fargo, N.D., to Pearl and Hugh Malcolm. He moved to Missoula at an early age and graduated from Missoula County High School where he became well known as an accomplished athlete. Later, he played football and baseball for the University of Montana Grizzlies. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Lieutenant from 1950 to 1953.

Roy was in the Insurance business for 45 years and was an entrepreneur and businessman in the Missoula and surrounding area since the 1950s. He was also a longtime partner in the Lake Hills Family Center IGA in Bigfork.

Roy was an active member of many service organizations including Salvation Army, Goodfellows, and the Missoula Downtown Lion's Club (44 years). Roy was one of the "Good Guys!"

Roy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Ann Beaman; three brothers, Ray, Dale, and Carl Malcolm; five daughters, Debbie (Ken) Ross, Merilee (Bob Chapeski) Malcolm, Bonnie Malcolm, Kris (Frank) Reed, Karla (Rick Bartow) Malcolm; 12 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and dear friends.

Roy was a beloved husband, father, and friend, and will be truly missed by his family. Donations in Roy's memory may be sent to the Missoula Downtown Lion's Club, Salvation Army, and Partners Hospice.
