Emma Lou Fredrickson

Emma Lou Fredrickson, 82, passed away Friday, July 8, at the Kalispell Regional Hospital of natural causes.

Emma Lou was born June 18, 1923 in Enderlin, N. D. to Walter and Ellen Kaber. The Kaber family moved to Whitefish in 1935. Emma attended school in Whitefish and graduated from high school in 1941. She went on to college at Northern College in Havre, and became a teacher. She taught school in Brockton and Markus, Wash. In Markus, she met and married Bert E. Fredrickson and they were married at the Hitch'n Post in Couer d' Alene, Idaho on June 5, 1948.

She started teaching in Whitefish in 1962 where she taught the subjects of English and literature. She went back to school at the University of Montana and received her masters degree in Library Science. She then became librarian at the Whitefish Junior High and later the Whitefish High School. She retired in 1996.

She was preceded in death by parents; husband, Bert; and brothers, Marvin and Louis Kaber; and sister, Lois Hull.

Emma Lou loved to teach. Teaching students not how to read, but how to love to read, was her passion. She also enjoyed playing cards. If you didn't know how to play cribbage, she would teach you.

Emma Lou is survived by her daughter; Mary Ellen Harker of Kalispell; daughter, Thea Lou Roach (son-in-law, Jay) of Columbia Falls; son, Dirk David Fredrickson of Alamosa, Colo.; brother, Harvey Kaber of Laurel; brother, Larry Kaber (Charlotte) of Kalispell; grandchildren, Lisa, Amie, Jamie and Jackie Harker; Jason, Benjamin, Samuel, Peter Umbriaco, Cassie, Erin and Dane Fredrickson; and 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Memorial celebration of Emma Lou's life at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish with Rev. John Bent, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Whitefish City Cemetery.

For the last three years she has been cared for by her granddaughter-in-law Mary Umbriaco.

The family suggests that memorials can be made to the Whitefish City Library in Whitefish.

G. Fred Fowler

G. Fred Fowler of Washington was born in Lambert on June 1, 1926 the son of Gurnie Wallace Fowler and his wife Dulcie Dale (Haynes) and passed away on Thursday June 25, 2005 at the age of 78.

On July 6, 1991, Mr. Fowler was united in marriage to Doris L Jennings-Fowler (Cantrell) at St. Peters United Church of Christ in Washington, Mo.

Besides his loving wife he leaves to survive one step-daughter, Linda Carlson of Reno, Nevada; three step-sons, Larry Johnson of Reno, Nevada; David Jennings of Kent, Wash.; and Steve Jennings of Washington, Mo.; one brother, Charles Fowler and his wife Ruth of Mankato, Minn.; three sisters, Pearl Sparks of Phoenix, Ariz.; Tana Horner and her husband Bill of Arizona; and Grace Anderson on Blue Springs, Mo.

Visitation and Funeral services were private. The Fowler family was served by the Oltmann Funeral Home, Washington, Mo.

Savannah Hollis

Savannah Hollis passed away at her home, Thursday, July 7, from a tragic accident.

She was born April 25, 1987 in San Diego, Calif.

Savannah had just graduated from Columbia Falls High School. She was a determined student and a fiery addition to the lives of her classmates and friends, having been voted Most Unique Senior last September.

Savannah will be remembered by most people for her constant proclamation of her hotness ("Hotter than the Sun"), her pride in her heritage ("Viva Mexico!"), and her undying love for good music, food and good people.

She will be greatly missed by the local concert-goers, as she was known for her explosive entrances and divine sense of style. She was also the ultimate "Flip Junkie" and was an enthusiastic spark to the Flip Wilson shows.

Savannah, (a.k.a. "The Glitter Twinkie") was a goddess to those who were lucky enough to know her. Her other aliases included Penelope Jonez, Fuzzy Duck, Muffin and The Mocha-Latte Honey.

Though she has breathed her last breath here on Earth, her outrageous energy and passion for life will live on in the hearts of those fortunate few whom she often kidnapped to embark upon long and extravagant adventures.

We love you, Vanna! And you've taken our hearts with you.

Savannah is survived by her mother, Helene "Amanda" Hollis; her 10-year-old brother, Christopher Donofiro; her 9-year -old sister, Nicole Donofiro; her grandpa, Larry Hollis of Las Vegas; grandma, Bernice Hollis; uncles Troy, Travis and Curtis; her great-grandparents, Mel and Lee Culver; her cousins, Cassandra, Tyler and the newest baby boy, all of San Diego; as well as her extended Donofiro family, grampa, Chris; gramma, Denise; uncle Danny; aunt Jennifer; and their children.

She is preceded in death by her aunt, Laurel Lee and her grandparents, Bob and Peggy Niederhauser.

Viewing was held Tuesday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Columbia Mortuary in Columbia Falls.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, July 13 at 3 p.m. at the Columbia Mortuary. A wake was held at her home in Hungry Horse after the services.

Clarence Lapp

Clarence Lapp, 83, broke free from his tired and worn earthly body into the presence of is Lord and Savior, Monday, June 27, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center.

Clarence was born at the family home in Creston on July 18, 1921, the sixth of 11 children, to Frank and Lena Lapp. He has been a resident of the Flathead Valley all of his life.

He married Leatrice Conner in 1942. They raised two daughters Lela and Lynda. After her death, he married Margie Walters and they raised two stepdaughters, Evelyn and Donna.

Clarence loved life and family. He was very active in the Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches in the valley. He was a charter member of Evergreen Alliance Church, was instrumental in the building of the gym at Fellowship Alliance in Columbia Falls and most recently a member of Faith Alliance. He served in many capacities in his church through out the years; many of those years were spent in teaching teens in Sunday School.

Through the years Clarence was involved in many enterprises. In his early years he was in outside sales at Gambles. He was in construction, developing Lapp's Addition in Evergreen as well as many homes around the valley. Clarence had a great love for sales.

In January 1993, he married Elaine Chase. They lived in Columbia Falls and operated Lapp's Gardens until three years ago when they moved into Kalispell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leatrice, his parents, two brothers, Willard and John, and two sisters Anna and Esther.

Clarence is survived by his wife, Elaine, at the family home; his daughters and family, Lela and Garry Toavs; Lynda and Brad Kenfield; grandsons, Randy (Sherry) Toavs; Russell (Mishelle) Toavs; Chris Lapp; Marcus Kelsey; Sean Toavs; and granddaughters, Renae (Dave) Kramer; Sharon (Nate) Korns; and 18 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Oesch; and five brothers, Jason, Ed, Wayne, George, and Floyd and their families; and six step-children and 10 step-grandchildren.

Because of Clarence's love for the Camping Program at Dickey Lake Bible Camp and Conference Center, the family suggests memorial contributions to the new dining hall/lodge construction project.

Funeral services were held on June 30 at Faith Alliance Church. He was laid to rest at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
