Student of the Week

Jessica Flansaas, a freshman at Columbia Falls High School, is the student of the week for the week of Jan. 24. She was nominated because of her honesty and integrity when confronted with choices. The faculty and staff make nominations for student of the week. Jessica is the daughter of Katrina and Brian Lane, of Coram, and receives a personal pan pizza compliments of Pizza Hut.

Horsemen meet

The Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 7:30 p.m. at the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Building, located at 490 North Meridian Road (across from the Fairgrounds). The meeting is open to the general public and all are welcome. Members wishing to participate in 2005 work projects need to come at 6:30 p.m. for a portion of the required defensive horsemanship training.

Horsemen potluck

The Back Country Horsemen of the Flathead will be hosting their annual membership potluck dinner at the Creston Grange Hall (Creston crossroads on Route 35), on Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. Great food, conversation, and guest speakers. Dinner auction

Big Brothers Big Sisters select dinner and auction tickets are on sale now. Buy a ticket before Feb. 2 and be entered into a special drawing for Mark Ogle's framed Glacier Grotto. The event is scheduled for March 5 at the WestCoast Kalispell Center. For tickets or more information, call 752-0092.

Spiritual cinema

Indigo, a spiritual film, will be shown at the Flathead High School auditorium at 7 p.m. Jan. 29. Tickets available here at Bad Rock Books.

Blackfeet writer

The Hungry Horse News is looking for a Blackfeet writer to write a weekly column about life in Blackfeet country. All applicants will be considered, though we're looking for someone who spins a good tale rather than drones on about politics. All applicants must be Blackfeet. Free music

The Flip Wilsons will be playing live music at Montana Coffee Traders in Columbia Falls from 7 to 9 p.m. on Feb. 5. The band plays alternative music popular with younger people and dancers. Admission is free, and the cafe will continue to offer pastries, lattes and soup.

Michael Bibb, of Columbia Falls, has made the fall dean's list at University of Montana-Helena School of Technology.
