Dorothy Baker Sherman

Dorothy Baker Sherman, age 104, passed away on Monday, Feb. 7, 2005, at Lake View Care Center in Bigfork. She was born on Oct. 8, 1900, at Eagle Grove, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Carrie (Wilson) Baker.

Dorothy was raised in Cooperstown, N.D., graduating from high school at the age of 16 and from the University of North Dakota at the age of 19. She taught school and was the first lady high school principal in North Dakota. Being a firm believer in education she saw to it that her four children were college graduates.

Dorothy married Waldo Sherman in 1923 and resided in Minot, N.D., until moving to Shelby, Mont., in 1949 where they purchased the Ford auto dealership. They moved to Whitefish in 1984 and her husband Waldo passed away there in 1988, she then moved to the Friendship House in Kalispell and then to the Lake View Care Center in Bigfork where she spent her last seven years enjoying the exceptional care given to here there.

Dorothy was active in many organizations including P.E.O., Daughters of the American Revolution, and served in many positions in the Methodist Churches she attended.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Waldo and son Bill Sherman, and grandson David Sherman.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Sherman of Walla Walla, Wash., Richard Sherman of Bigfork, and daughter Patricia Green of Yuma City, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.

Services for Dorothy Sherman will be held Feb. 17, 2005, at 2 p.m. Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Johnson Mortuary. Burial will follow at C.E. Conrad Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson Mortuary and Crematory.
