Foundation for the arts
I was privileged to be invited to the annual Whitefish Community Foundation Grants Award reception on Dec. 15. This organization, headed up by David Stewart and Carol Atkinson, awarded more than $80,000 that evening to several deserving nonprofit organizations, including ours, the Whitefish Parent Teacher Association.
This year our PTA, along with the Stumptown Art Studio and the Whitefish Theatre Organization, has been involved in after-school theater and art classes at Muldown School as well as the O'Shaughnessy Theatre and the Art Studio.
In addition, Abigail MacLaren has been conducting Saturday workshops for young thespians. There will be a full-blown children's theater production this April as well as a children's art show by the Stumptown Art Studio. Funding for this program has been provided by many generous individuals and organizations, including the Whitefish Community Foundation. This organization, as well as the other groups and individuals supporting our program, understand the importance of the arts, as they enhance a child's self-esteem as well as their academic skills.
Thank you all, Whitefish Community Foundation, for understanding our youth and their individual needs and the purpose of the PTA to help every child grow.
And for those students still wanting to sign up for winter classes after school, please call the Stumptown Art Studio at 862-5929 and the O'Shaughnessy at 862-5371.
Again, thank you all for your support.
