Steve Gold and Chelsea Ray were the men's and women's club champions at the Whitefish Lake Golf Course. Gold had a combined score of 142, winning by three shots. Ray won her first championship in a one-hole shootout after tying at 160 with Maresa Jenson. At 15, Ray is the youngest champion in the club's history. Tyler Holtet took the boys junior championship with 148. Carroll Lilly and Dave Morberg tied for the men's senior with 146, and Ellen O'Hara won the women's senior with 165.

The fourth annual Whitefish Lake Swim takes place Sunday, Aug. 28. The race will start and finish at Whitefish City Beach. There will be a one-mile swim for ages 18 and over and a half-mile swim for ages 17 and under. Check-in starts at 8 a.m. and race time is 9:15 a.m. There will be prize money and raffle prizes. The third annual Whitefish Friends and Family Run/Walk will take place Saturday, Aug. 27, at 9 a.m. beginning at the North Valley Professional Center on 13th St. Entry fees are $15 pre-registered, $20 day of the race, $25 for families up to four members, and $10 for seniors. The event is sponsored by Whitefish Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab and North Valley Hospital. All proceeds go to the Child Development Center in Kalispell. For more information, call 862-9378.

A soccer tournament for boys and girls in U-11 through U-18 will be held Aug. 26-27 at the Kalispell fields. The tournament will be a double-elimination, eight-on-eight, king-of-the-mountain competition with two 25-minute halves. Awards will be given for first- through fourth-place finishers in boys and girls divisions. For more information, call 758-7848.

The Big Mountain Hill Climb up the Danny On trail will take place on Saturday, Aug. 27, and will benefit the Glacier Nordic Ski Team. Registration will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m. outside the Hellroaring Chalet and the race will begin at 9 a.m. People are invited to run, walk or hike the trail. Whitefish Parks and Recreation's flag football program combines fun and fitness as children play with peers while learning about football. Flag football is for girls and boys in grades 1-4.

First and second graders play Mondays, Sept. 5 - Oct. 10, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Grouse Mountain soccer fields.

The fee is $20. Third and fourth graders play Tuesdays and Thursdays, Sept. 6 - Oct. 13, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at the same location.

Big Kid Soccer, for children ages 3-5, provides an introduction to soccer through entertaining, active games.

Small-sided teams will be formed, and parent participation is encouraged.

Players will be divided into two leagues, according to age, and everyone plays Wednesdays, Sept. 14 - Oct. 12, 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. at Grouse Mountain soccer fields.
