Howard Sellers

Howard L. Sellers, age 60, of Anniston, Ala., died Aug. 3, 2005.

Sellers had a long career in public service in law enforcement including eight years with the FBI, two years as Whitefish police chief, and sheriff of Aiken County, S.C., for 10 years. Upon his death he had been director of training for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Center for Domestic Preparedness since 2003.

A Louisiana native, Sellers was an avid hunter and fisherman. He hunted deer, elk, wild pigs and antelope and fished in salt and fresh water.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Earlene Sellers, and a son, Jim Sellers.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Marilyn Southland Sellers, of Anniston; three daughters, Laura Sellers-Earl and her husband Carl, of Astoria, Ore., Kimberly Jo Gillies and her husband Mark, of Chetwynd, B.C., and Jana Jo Jackson and her husband Sam, of Atlanta, Ga.; a son, Patrick Shawn Sellers, of Denton, Texas; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren.

Funeral services took place Aug. 6, 2005, at Brown & Kughn Memory Chapel in Anniston, Ala., with Dr. Gary Redding and Gary Holt officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were employees of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Center for Domestic Preparedness. Honor guard were deputies of the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office, 400 West Eighth Street, Anniston AL 36201.
