August brings tournaments
Club Championship Aug. 13-14
This 2005 Club Championship could be one of the most competitive tournaments in a long time, with any number of players capable of claiming the top spots.
The two-day event is divided into men's and women's divisions for seniors, juniors and everyone else. Play will take place on both the North and South Course with everyone switching after the first day.
Dan Little, the defending senior champion, will be challenged by the likes of Carroll Lilly, Dave Morberg, Dave Streeter, Gary Rodman, Dave Armstrong and numerous other players in that age division.
In the regular division, the battle will involve more than a dozen players with the skill to claim the title this year. Steve Gold, Jason Johnstone, Shawn Tucker, Lindsey Wooley, Greg Newton, Carroll Lilly, Spencer Hughes, Dave Morberg, Drew Krause, and juniors like Matt Krause, Sam Krause, Derek Denning, Tyler Holtet, Zak Wooten, as well as Chris Connors, all have the game to win the event.
On the ladies' side, expect to see Ellen O'Hara, Karen Jacobson and even juniors such as Maresa Jenson and Chelsea Ray battle for the crown.
Entry forms are available in the Golf Shop for any member interested in participating in the Club Championship. The entry fee will go for prizes and the gala barbecue following the last round.
High school golf starts Aug. 15
The first day of practice for the 2005 Bulldog golf team will be at 9 a.m. on Aug. 15. All interested players are invited to participate and will be required to have their physical exam completed, have their parents or guardian attend the high school parent meeting and bring a signed consent form.
The first week of practice will involve lots of rounds of golf and drills for everyone. Players or parents with questions about the high school program may call Terry Nelson at 862-4375 or 253-9154.
Member/Guest Tournament
The Annual Member/Guest tournament is scheduled for Aug. 27-28, and once again the field will consist of nearly 100 players. Entry forms and specific information are available in the Golf Shop. The format has traditionally been one day of best ball, with the second round consisting of a modified Stapleford format.
Club Professional Championship
Whitefish Lake Golf Club will host the regional Club Professional Championship from Aug. 22 to 24. Play will be on the South Course all three days, and some excellent playing professionals will be competing. This is a great chance to watch some of the best club professionals compete. Locally, Ryan Malby, of Village Greens, is considered a strong favorite to challenge for the top spot.
Flathead Valley Junior Tour
This year's Flathead Valley Junior Tour, sponsored by the Whitefish Credit Union, has been a great success. This year, as always, Whitefish has been well represented at each stop of the tour.
Sam Krause has won three times, firing a 67 at Polson, 72 at Mission Mountain and 74 in his victories. On the girls' side, Breanna Cameron has participated in every event and has collected a medal at every event. Kylie McConnell is another great young devotee to the game and is steadily headed toward breaking the 100 mark.
Competition within the valley concludes on Aug. 18 with the fourth annual Flathead Valley Junior Championship at Eagle Bend.
