William S. Elliott

William (Bill) Schuyler Elliott, 77, of Helena passed away from kidney cancer on the 13th of April 2005. Born October 28, 1927 in Boise, Idaho to Frances Myers and Howard Elliott, Bill grew up in Three Forks and Deer Lodge where he graduated from Powell County High School. He then served in the US Navy for a year. Bill married Corinne Briscoe in 1947 in Illinois and then returned to Montana where they had three daughters: Patricia, Christine and Annie.

He taught in Billings from 1950 until 1955. In Stanford he became a teaching principal from until he took a position in 1959 as an elementary principal in Whitefish. The family lived in Whitefish for 11 years. After a brief stint with NASA on the east coast Bill returned to Montana and held various state positions.

In 1999 he married his long-time friend and companion, Jeanne Powell, with whom he continued to travel the globe and enjoy the Montana outdoors.

Surviving Bill are his wife, Jeanne, and his three daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia and Reid Schoonover of Clintonville, WI; Christine and Jim Walrath of Deer Lodge; and Annie and Andy Utick of Helena. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren.

Bill was a member of the Big Sky Unitarian Universalist Fellowship. A memorial service to celebrate Bill's life was held in Helena on Tuesday the April 19. Memorials to an outdoor organization of your own choosing or to St. Pete's Hospice are suggested by the family.
