George Mattheisen

George Griffin Mattheisen, age 84, passed away Sept. 22, 2004, at his home in Kalispell. He was born April 21, 1920, in Columbia Falls, the son of George and Katie Mattheisen.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii.

Griffin worked on the construction of Hungry Horse Dam and was employed at the Anaconda Aluminum Co. plant until his retirement. He lived at his home on Michels Slough Road in Columbia Falls until moving to Kalispell in 1992. He was very faithful in taking his walk every day until his health started deteriorating.

Griffin will always be remembered for his work ethic wherever he was. His hobby was cutting firewood and he was always happiest in the woods of working on cars or on whatever else needed repairing.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Katie; his siblings, Lydia Davenport, Loretta Wohl, Gladys Morris, Edward and Donald Mattheisen; and a nephew, Johnny Mattheisen.

Griffin is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Kalispell; daughters and sons-in-law Connie and Dan Jimmerson, of Columbia Falls, and Karen and Jim Flarety, of Kalispell; grandson and wife Skeeter and Amanda Eckelberry, of Green River, Wyo.; granddaughter and husband Jessica and Kyle Formhals, of Columbia Falls; great grandchildren Taylor and Brady Eckelberry and Kaitlyn Formhals.

A memorial graveside service was held Sept. 27, 2004, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Columbia Falls with Rev. Tom Gopp officiating.
