Girls thump Vals in lopsided victory

| September 15, 2004 11:00 PM

The Columbia Falls girls soccer team got their first conference win in convincing fashion last week, walloping Bigfork 12-0.

Forward Lisa Carter had a hat trick as the Kats scored six goals in each half as they outshot the Valkyries 28-2.

Forward Lisa Carter had a hat trick and Ashley Horine, Alona Raymond and Beth Karper each had two goals apiece.

The Kats' depth showed as well. Coach Greg Trenerry has said since the beginning of the season that he has six players he can switch without much difference in the team, and that showed Thursday as senior captain Kim Pearce, Sarah Frank and Michelle Valov were all out with injuries.

The trio are expected to be out this week as well, when the Kats face AA Hellgate at home.

Against Bigfork, Trenerry said he was pleased with the way the girls finished .

"We finished pretty well. I wish we could have held it up just a little more," he said in reference to the lopsided score.

He also credited Bigfork.

"Bigfork never gave up. They just kept trying to play soccer," Trenerry said, noting the Vals also had four players injured and just one substitute.

Carter started the scoring at the 19 minute mark with an assist from Jessica Boyer.

Amber Lampman then knocked one in on an assist from Lindsey Henning at the 22 minute mark. Henning then scored on an assist from Carter at 28 minutes, Horine scored at 32 minutes on an assist from Ashley Sweeney, and then Sweeney scored alone at 40 minutes.

Horine then scored a minute later, Carter two minutes later, and then again a minute later.

Bam. Bam.

Karper then scored at the 48 minute mark on an assist from Lampman. Alona Raymond scored at the 54 minute mark, and then again at the 75-minute mark on an assist from Carla Appleton. Karper then topped off the scoring on an assist from Boyer at the 76 minute mark.

The Kats face a tougher opponent in AA Hellgate on Saturday at home. The girls start at noon. Last year the girls lost to Hellgate 4-3.
