Kats edge Dogs to take conference title

All that matters is the W.

The Columbia Falls girls soccer team dropped Whitefish for the second time this season, 1-0 on Tuesday. The score came early when Kim Pearce headed in the only score on a corner kick from Lisa Carter just 2:15 into the game.

"It wasn't the prettiest game, but we'll take it," said coach Greg Trenerry.

Trenerry said this was the first time the Kats have ever beaten Whitefish twice in one season.

The win put the Kats first and undefeated in the Northwest conference at 6-0. The Kats will face Belgrade in the first round of the state A playoffs Saturday at 2 p.m. at home. The conference championship means the Kats, if they win, would have home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.

Center forward Carter also set the all-time scoring mark for the Kats. She had 20 goals and 15 assists on the regular season— tops in the state and tops in Wildkat soccer history.

"She got the record," Trenerry said.

After a slow start against Libby on Friday, the Columbia Falls girls soccer team poured it on against Libby away, beating the Loggers 5-0.

The game was tied 0-0 at the half.

Kim Pearce scored the first goal at the 49-minute mark, and Lisa Carter and Ashley Horine both scored two goals apiece to round out the shutout.

Carter had two assists, as did Alona Raymond. Pearce also had an assist. The Kats' defense held strong again, anchored by sweeper Cassie Stoneman.
