Rooting out the Greens

| July 13, 2004 11:00 PM

To the editor,

I have read the ridiculous recent letters to the editor by "green" environmental activist Brent Mitchell criticizing the Flathead County Planning Office, planning board and commissioners. Mr. Mitchell apparently has heartburn over the fact that he and his "green" buddies did not get their way from the formidable planning process in Flathead County. It reminds me of a two-year-old crying over spilt milk.

With regards to Mr. Mitchell's diatribe criticizing the Flathead County Planning Board, I adamantly disagree. I have attended planning board meetings and have found the board to be the most professional and knowledgeable board in Flathead County. Many of the members have well over 10 years of experience with regards to planning and land-use issues.

The board has always tried to find out the facts with regards to issues raised at the hearing by asking questions of people at the hearing. On many projects, I have seen the board add conditions to address the concerns raised at the public hearing. At each meeting I have attended, I have seen the board be courteous to all involved.

There will always be someone in any decision who does not get their way. I believe that when a "green" environmentalist such as Brent Mitchell and his "green" buddies are whining, crying and sniveling, it is a sure sign the Flathead County Planning Board must be doing something right.

Keep up the good work Flathead County Planning Board. Many of us appreciate the good job you are doing.

Thank you Flathead County Planning Board and Flathead County Commissioners for not letting "green" environmentalists such as Brent Mitchell intimidate you.
