Recuse Rebuttal

| August 19, 2004 11:00 PM

I am responding to your article "Hookup fees may result in recuse" written by Paul Peters.

His article makes false insinuations about a reputable, award-winning contractor who has served the Flathead Valley on numerous boards, benefiting our community with his knowledge, expertise and honesty. Peters implied in the article that Tim Calaway has made recommendations and voted on zoning and amendment changes to benefit his parents-in-law.

Did Paul Peters speak to Richard or Nancy Whitaker before he wrote the article? Did he ask either of the Whitakers if they are in favor of the proposed developments? Did he research when and why the Whitakers made an investment in the Water and Sewer contract? The answer to all of these questions is "no."

The Whitakers have lived in the Bigfork area for over 40 years. Anyone who knows the couple would vouch for their honesty and high moral standards. Their character is beyond reproach. I am disappointed in and offended by the poorly researched and misleading article.
