The art of giving

Our tip of the hat this week goes to the I.A. O'Shaughnessy Foundation, which has once again come forward with a huge donation for Whitefish facilities, this time the competition pool at The Wave, the Whitefish Community Aquatic & Health Center. The pool will be named after O'Shaughnessy in the same manner the cultural arts center also bears the O'Shaughnessy name.

We're ever mindful that in Whitefish, this kind of generous philanthropic giving is the reason we have so many nice facilities that other towns can only dream of — a state-of-the-art library, cultural arts center, enclosed ice pavilion, youth sports complex, the soon-to-open aquatic and health center. Even our historic train depot is so well preserved because of this level of giving.

All of these projects have rallied the community as a whole, and everyone has given what they could afford. Grass-roots giving, meshed with donations from large foundations, has become a winning formula for Whitefish.
