Mass changes
St. Richard's Catholic Church announces mass time changes because of a temporary medical leave for Father Joe Pat Moran. Masses from Aug. 7 through Nov. 30 with Father Rudy Bullman will be at noon Saturdays, at 11 a.m. on Sundays and at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. Communion services are at 8:30 a.m. Mondays at the Montana Veterans Home and at 7 p.m. Saturday evenings at Apgar Amphitheater and Lake McDonald Lodge, in Glacier National Park. Confession will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday mornings.
Contestants
Andrea Balch, 21, daughter of Eric and Julie Balch, will be a contestant as rodeo queen at the Northwest Montana Fair this month. Danielle Gilley, 11, daughter of Mark and Laura Gilley, will be a Little Miss Rodeo contestant at the fair.
Toastmasters
The North Valley Toastmasters will meet on Wednesday morning, Aug. 11, from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Whitefish Credit Union meeting room in Whitefish. Interested members of the public are invited to attend. Call Jack at 862-8809 for information.
Fire investigated
Columbia Falls firefighters put out a front-end loader that caught on fire at the Great Northern Bark plant Friday evening. The loader was not plant equipment however, said assistant fire Chief Joe Tamburelli. It was owned by Larry Luce, runs the industrial park. The loader was destroyed. The fire is under investigation.
Downing retirement
Friends and family are invited to Jerry Downing's retirement party from the Bonneville Power Administration at 5 p.m., Aug. 7, at the North Valley Eagles Club in Columbia Falls. Music by Louie Rogers at 7 p.m. Call 892-2006 for more information.
Park reunion
Glacier National Park will hold its reunion picnic for alumni, employees, friends and neighbors beginning at 1 p.m. Aug. 15. Please bring a main dish and salad and your own beverages if you can. Event is at park headquarters community building. Program includes comments from park management staff and illustrated program by Lon Johnson on restoration of the Many Glacier Hotel.
Elk talk
Larry Jones will talk about bugling elk at Canyon Archery at 7 p.m., Aug. 6, and will provide a talk to Christian bowhunters at 7 a.m., Aug. 7, as part of the Fellowship Alliance Church. Call 892-1944 for more information.
Heritage results
Heritage Days results as follows: Children's Category was won by the Whitefish Dance Club; Horse Category was won by Hoof Beats and Harmony; Business category was won by First Citizen's Bank; and the Best Theme was won by Glacier Lanes Bowling. Darla W. won split the pot for $50, and Darrell Olson won the clock that was donated by Crouch Jewelry. A great big thanks to Karl Skindingsrude for the wonderful job he does advertising and announcing.
