Girls get back track with pair of conference wins
The Columbia Falls girls basketball team righted the proverbial ship last week with two conference victories.
The Wildkats beat Libby at home Thursday, 64-31 and Whitefish 58-38 Friday.
Kierra Kemppainen scored 16 points, including four 3-pointers against the Loggers to lead the Kats.
Taryn Borgen added 11 including three triples and Rylee Sweeney had 10.
Against Bulldogs, Borgen had the hot hand with three 3-pointers and 20 points total.
Addy Bowler hit four 3-pointers and added 12 points for the Kats. Two of her threes happened during an 18-9 third-quarter surge that put Columbia Falls 44-24.
Sweeney also had several blocks in the contest.
The Kats host Polson Thursday night at 7:15 p.m. and then travel to Browning Friday. The girls are now 4-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play.
Coach Jeremy Grilley said the girls did a good job in both games of taking care of the ball and being patient on offense, by not just taking the first open look.
Against Polson they’ll look to break down Polson’s zone and against Browning, it may end up being a track meet.
“We have the athletes to break the press and run with (Browning),” he said.
Taking care of the ball will be paramount in both games, but particularly against Browning, as they love to press and run in transition.
Two wins this week would square up the season for the girls.
