The Columbia Falls football team lost to rival Dillon on the road Friday, 21-7 in a game that was closer than the score would suggest.

The Cats were only down by a touchdown heading into the fourth quarter, before the Beavers pulled away.

Coach Kelly Houle was pleased with the young team’s effort, despite the loss.

“I was really proud of them,” he said. “They played with perseverance and grit.”

Even though they were down 21-0 in the fourth, they kept playing hard and scored a touchdown and had another chance for a score as well.

He noted that Dillon has two of the best linebackers in Class A and the Wildcats had a tough time getting the run going.

The Cats rushed for just 37 yards. Reggie Sapa had 10 rushes for 27 yards and Trip Ross had four rushes for 10 yards.

Sophomore quarterback Banyan Johnston was 24 of 38 for 206 yards and one touchdown, with two interceptions and five sacks.

Easton Brooks led the receiving corps with five catches for 64 yards and one touchdown.

Dillon ran the ball well. They had 40 carries for 193 yards and were 7 of 19 passing for 83 yards.

The Wildcats face Whitefish for homecoming on Friday. The Bulldogs are coming off a squeaker against Corvallis, 21-20.

The Wildcats will look to get the run going against the Bulldogs.

“We have to get the run going so we’re not one-dimensional,” Houle noted.

It should be a fun game to watch. Game time is 7 p.m. The Bulldogs are 2-1.
