The Columbia Falls boys soccer team finished the regular season undefeated at 12-0-0 after they dropped Libby 6-1 at home Saturday.

Finley Sundberg had a hat trick in the win. He leads class A with 22 goals this season.

The Cats out-shot the Loggers 12-1. Senior Adam Schrader had a pair of goals and Josiah Kilman had a goal to round out the scoring. It was senior Kilman’s first goal of the year, as he normally plays defense.

It’s been at least 17 years since the Wildcats rounded out a perfect season, coach O’Brien Byrd said.

Byrd noted that not only does Sundberg have the school record in goals, he’s on the cusp of breaking the record for assists set by Dale Blickhan last year.

Kai Golan had five assists in the Libby win on senior night.

Last Tuesday the Cats blanked Polson at home, 8-0. Dale Blickhan and Schrader had a couple goals apiece in the win.

The Cats host Billings Central at home in the first round of the playoffs at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rams, the No. 2 seed in the East, are a formidable opponent out of the gate at 9-0-3. They lost the conference tiebreaker to Livingston.

“They have a solid defense,” Byrd said, noting they are third-best in state A in goals allowed.

The Cats have only allowed four goals all season and all of them were on free kicks.

The Cats have not played Central this year. Central scored 60 goals this season, so it should be a great match to open the postseason for both teams.
