Twins season closes at state tourney
The Glacier Twins came out strong winning their first game of the Legion Baseball State A tournament in Belgrade, but unfortunately weren’t on the winning end the next two days.
On Friday Glacier built an early 3-1 lead over Havre, but in the fourth inning the Northstars put together a five-run offensive burst to take the lead. The Northstars added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and another score in the sixth to seal the win and oust the Twins from the tournament, 9-3.
The Twins scored all three runs in the second inning; Josiah Ruther, Jake McIntyre and Mason Peters all drove in runs in the frame. Hayden Meehan led the Twins with two hits in three at-bats.
The Twins finished their 2022 season with an impressive 34-12 overall record.
On the first day of the tournament, Wednesday, Glacier toughed out a 13-7 win over the Laurel Dodgers. The Twins clinched the win in the top of the seventh inning after the two teams were knotted up at 7-7. Glacier had six runs in the seventh inning to take the win. A highlight in the high-scoring game was when Stevyn Andrachick tripled on a line drive to right field which sent Owen Shilling, AC Chilson and Peters across the plate for three runs.
The high-scoring game saw 14 hits for the Twins and 11 for the Dodgers.
Thursday evening the Twins went into extra innings with the American Legion Post 30 Bandits. The Twins briefly took the lead in the bottom of the sixth inning but the Bandits scored one in the top of the seventh to tie the game.
Playing three extra innings, the Bandits scored four runs in the top of the 10th inning and Glacier didn’t have the answer, taking the tough 9-5 loss.
That set up a win-or-go-home game for Friday afternoon when the Twins couldn’t get rolling against Havre.
