Football v. Polson

The Columbia Falls football team is on the road for the big conference matchup against Polson Friday night. The Pirates are coming off a 49-14 victory over Libby, while the Wildcats had a scheduled bye.

The Cats the week before beat Libby, 48-0. The Wildcats (3-0) have scored 35 or more points in all their victories so far this season, while the defense collectively has given up just 12 points.

Polson is also undefeated at 5-0 as well, so the game should be a barnburner.

The Cats are led by sophomore quarterback Cody Schweikert, while Polson is led by junior quarterback Jarrett Wilson, who is also having a stellar season.

The road doesn’t get any easier for the Wildcats. After Polson they face Browning at home and then end the season with Whitefish and Hamilton, both of which were undefeated heading into the sixth week of the season.

Finberg recognized

University of Providence (Great Falls) volleyball player Cydney Finberg-Roberts was named the NAIA National Setter of the Week last week. It is the second time in her career that she has won the national award. Finberg-Roberts was a standout volleyball and basketball player for Columbia Falls when she was in high school. She’s married to Shonn Roberts, who was a standout wrestler for the Wildcats and went on to have a great college career in that sport. Finberg-Roberts, a redshirt-senior, had three games over 40 assists as she led the No. 10 Argos (13-2) to four straight victories on the weekend. She recorded 53 assists in the win against Rocky Mountain College, marking the third time this season she has recorded over 50 assists in a game. She had previously earned the recognition in November 2019 when she was a redshirt sophomore, after breaking a Frontier Conference record with 75 assists in a thrilling five-set win over Rocky Mountain College to win a share of the conference regular season title.

Golf

Columbia Falls golfer Lane Clark took 13th at the Western A golf tournament in Hamilton last week. Clark shot an 82, good enough for him to secure a spot at the state tournament this weeekend in Polson. As a team, the boys took seventh.
