Writing contest winners

Winners of the Authors of the Flathead’s annual High School Writing Contest were announced recently.

Three of the six top contestants— Emma Upton, Hannah Schweikert, and Juliana MacPherson— attend Columbia Falls High School. Upton, a Columbia Falls senior, won first place in the poetry category while senior Schweikert and sophomore MacPherson tied for second place in the short story category.

Finalists won cash prizes with Upton, as the poetry champion, taking home $300 and Schweikert and MacPherson each receiving $250.

The categories’ two first place winners also receive
