A plan to revamp Glacier National Park’s east side housing situation has an estimated cost of $4 million to $7 million. The Park recently released an environmental assessment of the project, which calls for building a four-plex and an eight-plex in the Many Glacier area near the Swiftcurrent Ranger Station. In addition, a duplex would be built in the East Glacier Ranger Station complex.

Columbia Falls speech and debate team traveled to Bigfork for their final regular season tournament Saturday. Developer Mick Ruis still has plans for a “pie factory” at the former Park Mercantile on Nucleus, the Finn Biscuit, which quietly had a bakery in the back of its shop for years on Nucleus is also planning an expansion, and another bakery with a bike shop is planned for a site that is now a home just south of the Cosley Building.

New Backcountry Horsemen chapter hits the trail running

A new chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen has formed in the Flathead Valley and it didn’t take them long to get boots on the ground. The Northwest Montana Backcountry Horsemen have just under 100 members, including 13 young people. It formed last March and was sanctioned by the state organization of the Backcountry Horsemen in May, said Andy Breland, trail project coordinator for the group.
