Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire up the North Fork on Friday, Sept. 6.

On Friday, a pickup truck towing a trailer full of road cloth for the road reconstruction project in the upper North Fork caught on fire.

The truck burned to the ground as did the trailer, said resident Bill Walker, as the truck burned alongside his property. There were no injuries.

Walker said the driver told him he pulled over because he smelled something funny. By the time he stepped out of the truck there was flames shooting out of the wheel wells. It was a brand new F-150 belonging to Brice Construction, the road contractor. The only thing salvaged was the ignition key, which the driver had in his pocket.

Walker said the Park Service was first on the scene, followed by the Border Patrol, the Blankenship Fire Department, and a Forest Service fire crew. Brice also sent a couple of water trucks that it had on hand.
